Artisan Group / Trade Partnerships / St. George & Washington County, Utah
Plumbing & Excavation for Southern Utah Contractors, Builders & Developers
A building is only as dependable as the systems supporting it. Artisan Group supports general contractors, builders, and developers in St. George and throughout Washington County, Utah, with plumbing, underground utilities, excavation, hydrovac, and selective sitework. Our work is grounded in the details that connect those scopes in the field.
We can take on a defined specialty assignment or coordinate related work through Artisan Plumbing and Artisan Excavation. Your project remains yours. Our job is to make our part of it run well.
Owner-led · Multiple trade disciplines · Local field experience · Contractor-first partnerships
Where can we support your project?
Choose the work that needs attention. Each scope can be discussed independently or alongside a related trade.
One company. Distinct trade scopes.
The work between the trades matters.
On a working construction site, a utility crossing affects excavation. A changed connection point affects plumbing. A late discovery underground can alter access, sequencing, and the next trade's start date. These are not separate problems when they happen in the same trench.
With plumbing, excavation, and utility-exposure work under one operation, Artisan Group can address the practical overlap between access, installation, material movement, and restoration. That continuity can make a defined subcontract easier to coordinate, especially when conditions change in the field.
We're a fit for selected custom residential, commercial, multifamily, renovation, and specialty underground scopes—particularly where coordination and conditions matter more than sheer project size. We bring an understanding of adjoining trades while staying within the role the project team has assigned.
Prepared for the work / Field execution
Practical capability. Fewer handoffs.
Underground work rarely follows a perfectly isolated scope. Access affects installation. Material movement affects sequencing. A concealed line can change the plan before the next trade arrives. Artisan Group approaches those details as part of the work—not as problems to hand off without a plan.
With our own field resources and complementary trade experience, we can support the work from the first excavation through the next clear handoff, wherever that fits the agreed scope. The focus stays on what the site needs, when it needs it, and how our part fits the larger project.
Access & excavation
Preparing utility corridors, working around existing improvements, and creating the space needed to install or repair underground systems.
Material & site movement
Coordinating mobilization, spoil handling, material placement, and the practical logistics that keep a defined scope moving.
Utility investigation
Locating, inspecting, and exposing concealed infrastructure before a decision underground becomes an avoidable surprise.
Ready for the next trade
Considering bedding, backfill, testing, inspections, access, and handoff requirements within the responsibilities we agree to carry.
01 / Underground utilities
Water, sewer & utility work for Southern Utah construction.
For St. George-area builders and contractors, Artisan supports new private water-service and sewer-lateral installations as well as extensions, reroutes, repairs, and replacements. By coordinating pipe installation with the excavation needed to reach grade and maintain clearances, we can evaluate access, utility crossings, bedding, inspections, and the next phase of construction together.
We can take on the combined underground plumbing and excavation scope, or perform the defined trenching and exposure work while another contractor installs the utilities.
- New water services, sanitary sewer laterals, extensions, reroutes, and tie-ins
- Utility trenching for selected water, sewer, gas, irrigation, and other site-utility corridors, within the agreed scope
- Existing-line location, camera inspection, potholing, and exposure ahead of connections or repairs
- Trench depth and route planning, pipe support, bedding, backfill, and agreed surface restoration
- Spoil handling, aggregate movement, equipment access, and coordination at utility crossings
02 / Artisan Plumbing
Plumbing for new work, complex changes & existing buildings.
Artisan Plumbing supports selected new construction, commercial tenant improvements, custom residential work, multifamily properties, and renovations throughout Washington County. Our work includes water supply and distribution, drain-waste-vent piping, gas piping, fixtures, water heating, and difficult changes to existing systems.
That experience extends to the systems builders and facilities teams need planned early: the water service and its pressure, backflow protection, restaurant waste handling, pump and lift station requirements, and service access that remains practical after construction.
- Water distribution, drain-waste-vent rough-in, fixture piping, replacements, and reroutes
- Commercial plumbing modifications, tenant improvements, and occupied-building work
- Natural gas and propane piping and related connection work
- Tank and tankless water heating, hot water distribution, PRVs, and pressure management
- Backflow prevention installation, testing and repair by certified personnel
- Grease interceptors, sewage ejectors, grinder pumps, lift stations, and specialty waste connections
03 / Precision excavation
Hydrovac when a buried unknown needs a closer look.
Artisan Group provides hydrovac utility exposure for Southern Utah general contractors, plumbing and excavation subcontractors, and utility crews. A request may be as focused as verifying one buried crossing before trenching, or as involved as exposing multiple connections ahead of a renovation or utility installation.
Water-assisted vacuum excavation can provide controlled exposure in suitable conditions. We assess access, depth, existing utility information, soils, and water management before determining the appropriate method. Southern Utah caliche, rock, and water-sensitive soils can call for different equipment or precautions.
- Daylighting and potholing to verify locations and approximate depths before mechanical excavation
- Targeted exposure of water, sewer, gas, electrical, and communications corridors where conditions permit
- Work near foundations, existing improvements, and congested underground areas
- Hydrovac-only subcontracting, or coordination with conventional trenching and pipe work
04 / Artisan Excavation
Selective excavation, drainage & site access.
Artisan Excavation supports builders with defined utility excavation, site access, drainage, selected grading, and specialty work in and around developed properties. We can work alongside an existing excavation contractor on a targeted assignment, support a plumbing or utility crew, or perform the combined underground scope.
The details between excavation, material movement, drainage, and restoration matter as much as the cut itself. We plan those transitions as part of the assigned work. Our focus is technically involved small and light-commercial scopes rather than mass grading or full-subdivision civil construction.
- Utility trenching, excavations for repairs or connections, and controlled work near structures
- Drainage, underdrain, buried drainage pipe, and related site improvements
- Selective grading, access routes, and preparation for specialty installations
- Load-out, spoils management, material delivery, and backfill coordination
- Support for property improvements, agricultural or irrigation infrastructure, and specialty outdoor facilities
05 / Artisan Group Construction
Construction experience that informs the trade work.
Our construction background informs the trade work. It matters when a line must be rerouted around structural changes, plumbing must follow a renovation sequence, or an occupied facility needs a carefully defined work area.
Artisan Group also considers select construction and improvement scopes, including commercial renovations, existing-facility modifications, and specialty projects. For work led by another general contractor, we respect the project team's direction and the boundaries of the subcontracted assignment.
- Commercial renovations and tenant-improvement coordination
- Plumbing and underground changes that must be sequenced around other trades
- Technical site support and specialty improvements within an agreed scope
Broad capability / Clear boundaries
We bring the range. You lead the project.
Artisan Group works across plumbing, excavation, and select construction disciplines, with licensing that supports multiple types of work. That broader perspective helps us understand where one scope meets another. It does not change who leads the project.
Some builders need us for a single trench, a specific plumbing package, or a day of utility daylighting. Others ask us to coordinate several related scopes. Either way, we respect the assignment, the other contractors you have selected, and the relationships you have earned.
We communicate through your designated project team. We do not solicit clients introduced through a subcontracted assignment or take on work outside the agreed scope without your involvement. When something needs attention, we bring it to you. The best subcontractor makes the finished project stronger without needing to be the center of it.
Your project leadership
We follow your coordination, site direction, communication channels, and approved change process.
Your client relationships
The relationship is yours. We work through the channels and contacts you designate.
Your existing trade partners
We work alongside the crews you choose, including where our capabilities overlap with theirs.
Your reputation
Clear updates, careful work, and a clean handoff help you deliver what you promised without unnecessary noise.
For estimators, project managers & superintendents
A subcontractor should make the scope clearer—not more complicated.
Builders need a partner who understands that a bid is only the beginning. Our approach centers on the scope assigned, the team's established responsibilities, field conditions, communication through your project leadership, and the work required for the next trade to proceed.
Understand the drawings and assignment.
We examine the requested work, site information, relevant plans, access constraints, and anticipated sequence before confirming fit.
Make responsibilities explicit.
Connection points, locates, excavation limits, bedding, backfill, testing, inspections, and restoration are clarified in the proposal as applicable.
Work through your project team.
We coordinate with your superintendent and adjacent trades, and bring scope changes or concealed conditions to your team before proceeding.
Leave the next phase ready.
Completion, inspections, tests, photographs, or closeout documents are coordinated to the extent required by the agreed scope.
Established here. Working here.
St. George and Washington County conditions shape the work.
Across St. George, Washington City, Hurricane, Ivins, and Santa Clara, a project may involve new service connections, existing-building tie-ins, irrigation infrastructure, or utilities close to finished improvements. Washington County sites can change from loose sandy material to compacted fill, caliche, and rock over a short distance. Access, trench methods, water pressure, and the condition of existing systems all affect the assignment.
Before excavation or a connection, we clarify the site-specific responsibilities for Blue Stakes of Utah 811 notification, private-line identification, utility-owner requirements, inspections, and the general contractor’s sequence. Standards and connection details can differ by jurisdiction and utility provider. We plan the agreed work around those realities rather than treating every Southern Utah jobsite the same.

Before you send the invitation
Questions builders and contractors ask.
Can we hire Artisan for only one part of the work?
Yes. The engagement can be limited to hydrovac daylighting, a particular excavation assignment, a plumbing installation or repair, or another clearly defined scope. When related trades are needed, Artisan can evaluate coordinating them within one operation.
Will you work with our existing plumbing or excavation subcontractor?
Yes. For example, another plumber can retain responsibility for the piping while Artisan Group handles a defined excavation or utility-exposure scope. Our licenses and equipment do not change another trade's assignment. We work to the agreed boundaries and communicate through your project team.
How do you protect our relationship with the property owner?
We work through the general contractor's designated contacts and change process. We do not treat subcontracted access to your project as an opportunity to solicit your client or add work outside the assigned scope. We bring questions, unexpected conditions, and potential changes to your team.
Where in Washington County do you work with builders and general contractors?
We review contractor and developer scopes in St. George, Washington City, Hurricane, Ivins, Santa Clara, and surrounding Washington County communities. We confirm travel, access, equipment mobilization, schedules, and project fit before accepting an assignment.
What types of construction projects are the best fit?
We are generally best suited to custom residential, light commercial, select multifamily, renovations, existing-facility modifications, and specialty underground utility projects. We assess larger or more specialized requests individually rather than claiming to cover every scale of civil or vertical construction.
Does Artisan Group perform its own excavation and underground support work?
Yes. Our team uses company-owned field resources for excavation, utility exposure, material movement, and related work within our accepted scopes. We evaluate the needs of each site and confirm the approach during project review.
Can you coordinate material movement and mobilization within your scope?
Yes, when those needs are part of the agreed work. We consider access, mobilization, spoil handling, and material movement alongside the excavation or underground assignment, with project-specific logistics clarified before mobilization.
Do you provide full subdivision infrastructure or mass grading?
Large-scale subdivision infrastructure and mass earthmoving are not our primary focus. Our core work includes plumbing, private water and sewer services, selective sitework, utility trenching, daylighting, and technically involved underground projects. We can review a proposed scope and confirm whether it fits.
What should we include with a bid invitation?
Send the project location, relevant plans or drawings, the requested scope, target dates, and any known site or utility constraints. If you have specifications, geotechnical information, utility plans, or defined division-of-work notes, include those as well. We can then evaluate fit and identify any necessary clarifications.
What licensing and qualifications can Artisan provide?
Artisan Group maintains licensing across multiple scopes, supported by experience in plumbing, excavation, and select construction work. Contact us with your prequalification requirements and proposed work. We can review applicable active license classifications, insurance documentation, qualifications, and any project-specific coverage or contract conditions. We only commit to work that fits the required licensing and project scope.
Does hydrovac work in every soil condition?
No. Hydrovac can offer controlled exposure in suitable materials, but solid rock, cemented caliche, buried obstructions, and water-sensitive soils can limit its practicality. The site conditions determine whether hydrovac, conventional excavation, or a combination is the better approach.
