Artisan Plumbing by Artisan Group

Plumbing Services in St. George & Southern Utah

Artisan Quality. Exceptional Client Experience.

Artisan Plumbing provides residential and commercial plumbing service, emergency repairs, replacements and installations throughout St. George and Washington County.

We handle the everyday plumbing problems a service company should be able to solve, but Artisan is particularly well equipped when the problem becomes more involved: an underground water leak, failed sewer line, slab leak, lift station problem, difficult diagnosis or a repair that requires excavation to reach.

Because plumbing, excavation and hydrovac operate within Artisan Group, the project does not have to stop at the point where the pipe disappears underground.

A Plumbing Company Built for More Than the Simple Calls

A leaking valve and a broken sewer lateral are both plumbing problems, but they require different capabilities. Artisan Plumbing is equipped for routine service and repair as well as the larger underground, excavation and site work that some plumbing problems require.

For our clients, that means experienced people, clear responsibility and fewer handoffs when a plumbing call becomes a larger project.

Our Plumbing Services

Emergency Plumbing Repair

When water is actively leaking, sewage is backing up or an essential plumbing system has failed, the priority changes.

Artisan handles emergency plumbing repairs throughout St. George and Washington County, including active water leaks, burst pipes, underground water line failures, sewer backups, damaged water and sewer lines, failed sewage pumps and lift stations, and other urgent plumbing problems that can cause property damage or loss of service.

We do not need to call every repair an emergency. When it actually is one, tell us what is happening when you contact us so we can understand the situation quickly.

Water & Sewer Line Repairs

When the problem is below ground, repairing the pipe is only part of the job.

Artisan handles main water line repair and replacement, emergency underground water leaks, sewer line repair and replacement, new underground water and sewer installations, recurring sewer problems, cleanouts and sewer camera inspections.

We also service sewage ejector pumps, grinder pumps and sewer lift stations, including larger and more complicated systems where the problem may involve pumps, controls, valves, piping or the surrounding underground infrastructure.

When excavation is necessary, we can approach the project with conventional excavation, hydrovac or a combination of the two depending on the site.

And we plan the dig around more than the pipe. Landscaping, irrigation, hardscape, structures and existing utilities all matter. Our goal is to expose what we need to reach while disturbing as little of the surrounding property as the repair reasonably allows.

Sewer Camera Inspections & Sewer Diagnosis

A shovel should not be the first diagnostic tool when the problem is inside a sewer line.

Artisan performs sewer camera inspections, sewer line locating and sewer scopes to evaluate accessible piping before determining whether a problem calls for clearing, a targeted repair, replacement or additional investigation.

Camera inspections can be useful for recurring backups, suspected pipe damage, pre-purchase evaluations, locating defects and understanding an existing sewer before an underground repair begins.

The camera does not eliminate every unknown below ground, but good underground work starts by learning as much as possible before excavation begins.

Plumbing Repairs & Leak Diagnosis

Good plumbing service starts with figuring out what actually failed.

We diagnose and repair water leaks, burst pipes, slab leaks, pressure problems, failing valves, hose bibs, sump pumps, fixtures, garbage disposals and other plumbing problems throughout the home or building.

We also perform drain clearing with professional drain equipment when needed, particularly when a stoppage may be connected to a larger sewer problem. Drain cleaning is part of our plumbing capability.

Water Heaters & Hot Water Systems

Water heater problems are not always solved by installing a larger version of whatever was there before.

Artisan repairs, replaces and installs traditional tank water heaters, tankless water heaters, commercial water heaters and hot water recirculation systems.

When replacement is appropriate, we consider actual hot water demand, fuel or electrical requirements, equipment location, installation conditions and future service access.

The goal is a hot water system that fits how the property actually operates, not simply a new box in the same space.

Water Softeners, Filtration & Drinking Water

Southern Utah water deserves more than a generic equipment recommendation.

Hardness, scale, sediment and specific drinking-water concerns are different issues and should not automatically be treated with the same system.

Artisan installs and services water softeners, whole-home filtration, specialty treatment systems and reverse osmosis drinking-water systems based on the water being treated, household demand and the result the client is actually trying to achieve.

We have also built a Southern Utah water-quality resource library using municipal water reports and other published data so homeowners can better understand what is in their water before deciding how—or whether—to treat it.

Repiping, Remodels & Plumbing Rough-In

Some plumbing projects begin with a failure. Others begin because the building itself is changing.

Artisan performs whole-home and partial repiping, manifold systems, kitchen and bathroom remodel plumbing, additions, fixture relocations and plumbing rough-in for residential and commercial improvements.

We also provide the plumbing preparation required for appliances and equipment, including water, drain and gas rough-ins where applicable.

We are plumbers, not appliance installers. Our responsibility is making sure the plumbing serving that equipment is properly planned, located and installed.

We pay particular attention to layout and future serviceability because the easiest time to correct a poor plumbing layout is before the walls close.

Gas Line Installation & Repair

Artisan installs, repairs and modifies natural gas and propane piping for residential and commercial properties.

That includes new gas branches, system modifications, repairs and rough-in for equipment such as ranges, dryers, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, fire features, pool equipment and generators.

Gas piping is planned around required capacity, routing, equipment demand, code requirements and access rather than simply finding the shortest path between two points.

Backflow Prevention

Backflow assemblies protect drinking-water systems from conditions that can allow water to move in the wrong direction.

Artisan provides Utah Department of Drinking Water certified backflow testing, certification, installation, repair and replacement for residential and commercial systems.

Because we are also a full plumbing contractor, we can address problems in the surrounding piping when the issue extends beyond the backflow assembly itself.

Septic Systems

Septic work sits at the intersection of plumbing and excavation, which makes it a natural fit for Artisan.

We perform septic system installation, repair, underground piping and drain-field work, with plumbing and excavation capabilities available within the same company.

That becomes especially useful when the problem does not stop at one component of the system and the project requires both plumbing knowledge and site work to resolve correctly.

Commercial & Multifamily Plumbing

Commercial plumbing service often requires a different level of coordination than a residential service call.

Artisan works with business owners, contractors, property managers, HOAs and multifamily properties on plumbing repairs, system upgrades and installations.

Our capabilities include commercial water and sewer systems, water heaters, gas piping, backflow assemblies, grease traps and interceptors, larger sewage lift stations, underground utility work and plumbing associated with tenant or property improvements.

When a problem crosses between the building and the site utilities serving it, our broader construction and excavation capabilities become particularly useful.

Kitchen & Bathroom Plumbing Upgrades

Plumbing isn’t always about repairing something that failed. We also handle the upgrades that make a kitchen or bathroom work better, look better or simply feel more finished.

Artisan Plumbing installs and replaces faucets, sinks, toilets, shower and tub plumbing, hose bibs and other plumbing components throughout the home. Whether you are swapping an outdated faucet, installing a new toilet, upgrading a shower or making a few changes without taking on a full remodel, we can handle the plumbing work required to do it correctly.

If an upgrade requires more than a simple replacement, we can also make changes to supply lines, drains, valves and existing connections to accommodate the new installation.

Hydrovac & Precision Excavation

When plumbing repairs involve buried water or sewer lines, precision matters. Our hydrovac equipment uses pressurized water and vacuum recovery to expose underground utilities while minimizing disturbance to surrounding soil, landscaping, and existing infrastructure.

Ideal for utility daylighting, locating underground plumbing, and working in sensitive or confined areas, hydrovac provides a controlled alternative to conventional excavation.

With hydrovac, plumbing, and conventional excavation all within Artisan Group, we can expose the problem, complete the repair, and restore the site under one operation.

Local Ownership. Experienced. Direct Accountability.

Artisan Group is independently owned and family operated in Southern Utah.

There are no corporate layers between the company doing the work and the people responsible for its outcome.

Founder Derek Vogel brings more than 21 years of hands-on experience across plumbing, excavation and general contracting, and Artisan Group has deliberately remained owner led so experienced leadership stays connected to execution and quality control.

That matters to us because plumbing decisions often have consequences beyond the immediate repair. A less expensive repair is not a good value if the same ground has to be opened again. A technically functioning installation is not a great installation if nobody can reasonably service it later. And an emergency is not an excuse for vague communication or unnecessary work.

We explain what we find, discuss the available options and keep the client informed when conditions change.

Artisan Quality. Exceptional Client Experience.

For us, that means the quality of the work and the experience of getting the work done are both part of the job.

Respect for Property, People & Pets

Plumbing repairs can be invasive.

Careless plumbing repairs are considerably more invasive. Our crews are expected to protect finished surfaces, keep work areas organized and respect the home or property they are working in.

Underground work receives the same consideration.

Before excavation, we look at access, landscaping, irrigation, hardscape, existing utilities and the surrounding improvements. When conditions allow, we use targeted excavation or hydrovac to limit unnecessary disturbance.

We cannot promise that an underground repair will leave the ground untouched.

We can treat avoiding unnecessary damage as part of planning the repair rather than something to think about afterward.

One Company. Integrated Capabilities.

Some plumbing projects require more than a plumber and a service van. Artisan Group maintains excavation equipment, hydrovac capability and construction resources in house, allowing our plumbing team to coordinate underground access, pipe repair or installation, backfill and site restoration as one project when the scope requires it.

Trusted Manufacturers

The right product depends on more than the name on the box.

Water demands, site conditions, installation space, and future service access all influence equipment and material selection.

We work with established manufacturers across water heating, filtration, fixtures, and piping, selecting products according to the requirements of the installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Plumbing problems do not always arrive with an obvious explanation. Sometimes you know exactly what failed. Other times you simply know that the pressure changed, water appeared where it should not be, a drain keeps backing up, or something is no longer working the way it used to.

These are some of the questions we hear most often from homeowners and property owners throughout Southern Utah.

Do I need to know what is wrong before I call a plumber?

No. Knowing what failed is our job.

Tell us what you are seeing, where it is happening, when you first noticed it, and whether anything recently changed. A photo can also be helpful when the problem is visible.

The symptom often tells us where to start, but we would rather diagnose the plumbing than have you try to diagnose it before calling.

What should I do if water is actively leaking?

If you can safely shut off the affected fixture or the main water supply, stopping the flow of water is usually the first priority.

Move belongings away from the affected area if it is safe to do so, and avoid entering standing water where electrical equipment or wiring may be involved.

When you contact us, let us know whether the water is still flowing, whether you were able to shut it off, and where the water appears to be coming from. That helps us understand the urgency before we arrive.

How do I know whether a plumbing problem is an emergency?

Active water that cannot be controlled, a significant sewer backup, a failed sewage pump or lift station, a major underground water line failure, or another problem that is actively threatening the property should be treated differently from a dripping faucet or a fixture that can simply be taken out of service.

If you are not sure, tell us what is happening. You do not need to decide whether it qualifies as an emergency before calling.

Urgent service is prioritized according to the nature of the problem and current service availability.

Why did my water pressure suddenly change?

A pressure problem can have several possible causes, which is why replacing the pressure reducing valve is not automatically the answer.

If the change affects only one faucet or shower, the problem may be isolated to that fixture. If it affects the entire property, we may look at the main shutoff, pressure reducing valve, water treatment equipment, a possible leak, or the incoming water supply.

The useful question is not simply whether the pressure feels high or low. It is where the change is occurring and what is causing it.

Is Southern Utah's hard water causing my plumbing problem?

It can contribute to some problems, but it should not become the explanation for everything.

Mineral accumulation can affect faucets, valves, showerheads, water heaters and other components that regularly come into contact with the water supply. If the same problems keep returning or there is substantial scale buildup, water conditions become more relevant.

A failed valve can also simply be a failed valve. We prefer to identify the actual problem first and consider water quality when it is genuinely part of the cause.

Do I need a water softener, water filter or reverse osmosis system?

They solve different problems.

A traditional water softener addresses hardness minerals that contribute to scale. Filtration is used to address particular substances, sediment, taste, odor or other water quality goals depending on the type of filter. Reverse osmosis is typically used for drinking water and removes a much broader range of dissolved material at a specific tap.

We do not think every Southern Utah home needs the same equipment. The right system depends on the water being treated and what you actually want to change about it.

When does a recurring drain problem become a sewer line problem?

One slow sink is very different from a problem that keeps returning or affects several fixtures.

Recurring backups, several slow drains, unusual gurgling, sewage appearing at a lower fixture, or a blockage that returns soon after being cleared can justify looking farther into the sewer system.

In those situations, a sewer camera and line locating can often provide far more useful information than repeatedly clearing the same line without understanding why it keeps happening.

Do you have to dig up my yard to find an underground water or sewer problem?

Not necessarily, and digging should not be the first diagnostic step when there are better ways to gather information.

Depending on the problem, we may use sewer cameras, locating equipment, leak diagnostics and other methods to narrow down what is happening before excavation begins.

If the pipe ultimately does need to be exposed, we can then plan the excavation around the location of the problem, existing utilities, landscaping, hardscape and access rather than simply opening a large area and hoping to find it.

If a water leak is near the meter, is it my responsibility or the city's?

That depends on where the leak is located and which water provider serves the property.

The meter is an important reference point, but responsibility for the meter, service connection and piping beyond it can vary by utility and by the exact location of the failure.

If the source is not obvious, we can help determine whether the problem appears to be within the property's plumbing. If it appears to involve utility owned infrastructure, the appropriate water provider may need to become involved.

Do I need to have my backflow preventer tested?

It depends on the property, the type of plumbing system and the requirements of the water provider.

Backflow protection is used where a connection could allow nonpotable water or another substance to move backward into the drinking water system. Irrigation systems, fire protection systems and many commercial properties are common examples where backflow protection may be relevant.

If you have received a testing notice, have an existing backflow assembly, or are not sure what your property requires, Artisan can identify the assembly and provide certified backflow testing, repair, replacement and installation when applicable.

Will my plumbing project require a permit or inspection?

Some repairs do not. Other plumbing projects, equipment replacements, gas piping, remodel work and larger system changes may require permits or inspections.

Requirements also vary between St. George, Washington City, Hurricane and other jurisdictions throughout Washington County.

When permitting applies to the work we are performing, it should be considered as part of the project rather than treated as an afterthought.

What happens if a simple plumbing call turns into an underground repair?

That is one of the situations Artisan Group is particularly equipped to handle.

If a diagnosis leads to a failed underground water line, damaged sewer, buried connection or another problem that requires excavation, our plumbing team has direct access to Artisan's excavation and hydrovac capabilities.

That allows the diagnosis, access, plumbing repair, backfill and related site work to be approached as one coordinated project rather than stopping the plumbing work while you search for a separate excavation contractor.

How does pricing work?

The first step is understanding what actually needs to be repaired.

Once the problem has been evaluated and the necessary work identified, we explain what we found and provide pricing for approval before the repair moves forward.

For larger projects where the final scope depends on existing conditions, underground conditions, equipment selection or other variables, we explain those considerations as part of the proposal so you understand what is included and what could change.
