ARTISAN GROUP CONTRACTOR PARTNERSHIPS
Plumbing & Hydrovac Support for Utility & Excavation Contractors
A defined scope. Experienced hands. Your project stays yours.
Artisan Group supports underground utility contractors, excavation companies, sitework crews, and municipal public works departments with licensed underground plumbing, hydrovac daylighting, and specialty excavation throughout St. George and Washington County, Utah.
Bring us in for the portion you need: a specialized subcontracted scope, backup capacity for public utilities, or urgent underground work. We coordinate with your crew—or work independently on an authorized assignment—while respecting established project responsibilities.

START WITH YOUR SCOPE
What does your crew need from ours?
Choose the support your project needs. We can fill a single specialty scope, supplement an existing crew, or discuss backup capacity for a municipal utility operation, subject to project requirements and availability.
01 / ARTISAN PLUMBING
The plumbing scope, without taking over the excavation.
Your crew may already be handling the trench, bedding, backfill, and site logistics. When the project reaches the water or sewer system, Artisan Plumbing can step in for the agreed piping and connection work.
Our underground plumbing scopes can include new water services and sewer laterals, repairs or replacements of buried piping, piping transitions, service relocations, and work at existing connections. We review the limits of responsibility, connection details, inspection requirements, and sequencing before work begins.
Because Artisan Plumbing works within the same organization as Artisan Group's excavation operation, we understand the access, grade, clearances, and protection needed by both crews. For a deeper look at the work itself, see our water and sewer line services.
Your company can retain excavation, backfill, restoration, and the prime contract. We perform only the agreed portion.
02 / ARTISAN GROUP
Daylight the conflict. Keep your project moving.
Before opening a trench, making a crossing, or connecting to an existing line, your team may need the actual position and depth of buried infrastructure confirmed in the field.
Artisan Group provides hydrovac support for utility daylighting, potholing, targeted excavation, and exposure of existing water, sewer, irrigation, electrical, gas, or communications infrastructure where the method is appropriate. Work can be limited to individual verification points or coordinated across a defined work area.
Hydrovac uses pressurized water and vacuum recovery for controlled soil removal. It is a useful complement to conventional excavation, not a replacement for utility locating, required precautions, or the equipment best suited to bulk earthmoving. Read more about our hydrovac excavation and utility daylighting services.
Utility-locate procedures, privately owned facilities, soil conditions, equipment access, and scheduling are reviewed for each assignment.
03 / ARTISAN EXCAVATION
Additional excavation capability, precisely where it's needed.
Some projects call for a supplemental crew or specific equipment rather than another contractor to manage the entire site. Artisan Group can evaluate defined scopes involving utility trenching, access excavation, drainage infrastructure, limited grading, backfill, and supporting sitework.
We approach that work in the context of the next trade's requirements: alignment and depth, room to work at a connection, access for installation, available grade, existing improvements, and the specified restoration limits.
Where multiple underground operations intersect, conventional excavation, hydrovac, and plumbing can be coordinated. Where they do not, we can remain within the single assigned scope. See Artisan Excavation's specialty sitework services and examples in our excavation project portfolio.
The right scope depends on plans, site conditions, crew and equipment availability, and the work already assigned to others.
04 / MUNICIPAL & PUBLIC UTILITY SUPPORT
Backup capacity for public works and municipal utilities.
A water or sewer line failure, an unexpected utility conflict, or a full maintenance schedule can leave a public works department needing additional capability. Artisan Group serves as a potential backup contractor for cities, municipal utilities, water and wastewater districts, and other public infrastructure operators in Southern Utah.
We can supplement an existing response or take responsibility for an approved, defined scope when agency crews are committed elsewhere. The objective is practical support—not a change in who directs the utility system or makes decisions for the public agency.
Additional support for underground water and sewer work, utility exposure, trenching, access excavation, and related maintenance or replacement assignments.
Discussion of time-sensitive assistance with line breaks, service interruptions, exposed piping, or unexpected underground conditions. Crew, equipment, and mobilization availability are confirmed for each call.
We can coordinate alongside municipal employees and union or nonunion contractor crews, or perform an authorized assignment independently when needed. Project-specific labor, safety, and agency requirements still apply.
Agency work is coordinated through the appropriate public works contact and remains subject to required procurement, authorization, permits, and utility-owner procedures. Discuss municipal or emergency backup arrangements.
WHERE THE SCOPES MEET
The handoff between trades is part of the work.
Underground problems rarely respect a contract line. The value of a capable specialist is understanding what the adjacent crew needs while keeping the agreed responsibility clear.
An unexpected pipe conflict
An excavation reveals existing water or sewer piping in the planned route. We can assess the plumbing portion and coordinate access, connection requirements, and proposed changes through your project lead.
A crossing that needs verification
Utility information leaves depth or clearance uncertain. A targeted daylighting scope can help establish the actual field condition before your crew proceeds with mechanical excavation.
One more specialized scope
Your crew has the main excavation covered but needs a plumbing tie-in, localized access excavation, or defined support at a critical point. We can review that portion without requiring a broader subcontract.
HOW WE WORK WITH CONTRACTORS
Your project. Your relationships. Clear boundaries.
Artisan Group is brought in to strengthen the work, not redirect the project. The hiring contractor retains project leadership, control of the client relationship, and coordination of the trades and scopes already under contract.
We work through the designated project contact, communicate conditions that may affect our assignment, and seek authorization before performing additional work. We do not use subcontracted access to solicit your client or pursue unrelated scopes behind your back.
That standard applies whether you need a single connection, ongoing specialized support across multiple projects, or backup capacity for a municipal utility operation. When a city or district engages us directly, we work through its authorized staff and established field procedures.
LOCAL EXPERIENCE
Underground contractor support in St. George & Washington County.
Artisan Group supports underground utility and sitework contractors, municipal public works departments, and water and wastewater utilities in St. George, Washington City, Hurricane, Santa Clara, Ivins, and surrounding Washington County communities. Specialty projects elsewhere in Southern Utah are considered according to location and scope.
Work in this region can involve compacted soil, caliche, rock, variable fill, private irrigation systems, existing underground improvements, and tight access around developed properties. Those conditions influence how utilities are exposed, how much room a connection needs, and whether conventional or precision excavation is appropriate.
Before any digging, the project must address applicable Utah Blue Stakes 811 procedures. Utility markings are not a substitute for physical verification, and private lines may require separate locating. We establish responsibility for those steps when reviewing the scope.
CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS
Before we step onto your site.
Can Artisan Plumbing handle only the underground piping while we excavate?
Yes. You can retain responsibility for excavation, backfill, and restoration while Artisan Plumbing performs a defined water or sewer piping scope. We agree on access, sequencing, inspections, and the handoff between crews beforehand.
Can we hire Artisan Group solely for hydrovac daylighting or potholing?
Yes. Targeted daylighting can be a standalone subcontracted service. We review the facilities to be exposed, locate requirements, ground conditions, access, and equipment availability before confirming the work.
Can cities and utility districts use Artisan Group as a backup or on-call contractor?
We can discuss standby, overflow, or project-specific callout arrangements for underground plumbing, hydrovac, and excavation work. For urgent needs, call with the location, utility issue, and access conditions; dispatch and response timing must be confirmed based on current availability and the agency's authorization process.
Can you work with municipal crews, union crews, or on your own?
We can coordinate a defined assignment with public works employees or other contractors, including union or nonunion crews, or work independently when the public agency authorizes that approach. We confirm the applicable labor, safety, supervision, and contract requirements for each project.
Will you communicate directly with our client or solicit additional work?
We respect the hiring contractor's project leadership and client relationship. Communication and additional scope are coordinated through the designated project contact unless another arrangement has been agreed.
Can you help with a water or sewer conflict discovered during excavation?
We can review the exposed condition, identify the potential plumbing requirements, and discuss a defined repair, replacement, or connection scope. The next step depends on the condition of the infrastructure, approvals, access, and scheduling.
Who handles Blue Stakes and privately owned utility locates?
We establish the responsible party and required procedures before excavation. Blue Stakes 811 notification applies to excavation work, including potholing; privately owned lines may require separate locating. Hydrovac is not a substitute for either.
Do you take on large civil utility contracts?
Our focus is defined specialty scopes, underground plumbing, daylighting, utility trenching, and related excavation support. We assess larger or more complex assignments individually rather than claiming to provide every civil construction service.
What should we send for a subcontractor quote?
Start with the project location, scope boundaries, expected schedule, plans or utility details if available, and a few site photos. For underground work, approximate depths, connection points, existing utility information, equipment access, and any required inspections are especially useful.
